Being a mom is a rewarding but demanding job! Finding time for yourself, especially exercise, can feel impossible. But staying consistent with exercise is crucial for your physical and mental well-being. How do you carve out time and stay motivated when laundry piles up and tiny humans need you constantly?
Make it a Family Affair
Instead of seeing exercise as time *away* from your family, try incorporating them! Go for a walk or bike ride together. Have a dance party in the living room. Kids love to move, and you’ll be setting a healthy example. You can even involve them in your at-home workouts – turn them into “weights” (safely, of course!).
Schedule and Prioritize
Treat your workouts like any other important appointment. Schedule them in your calendar and stick to them as much as possible. Even 20-30 minutes a few times a week can make a huge difference. Think about when you’re most likely to succeed – early morning before the kids wake up, during naptime, or after they’re in bed?
Be Realistic and Flexible
Don’t aim for perfection. Some days, you’ll only manage a quick stretch or a brisk walk around the block. That’s okay! Life happens. The key is to get back on track as soon as you can. Flexibility is key. If your scheduled workout gets derailed, find another time or modify it to fit your schedule. A 10-minute burst of activity is better than nothing!
Find Something You Enjoy
Exercise shouldn’t feel like a chore. Experiment with different activities until you find something you genuinely enjoy. Whether it’s Zumba, yoga, running, swimming, or hiking, finding an activity you love will make it much easier to stay consistent.
Celebrate Small Wins
Acknowledge your progress, no matter how small. Did you stick to your workout schedule for a week? Did you add an extra rep to your weightlifting routine? Celebrate these victories! They’ll help you stay motivated and build momentum.
